Hi folks,
This week we spent time doing a review of Newton's three laws using an old Magic School Bus video. The video allowed us to see Newton's laws in a situation where there is no friction. This allowed us to really take a look at the effects of the three laws from a different point of view.
Also, to deepen the understanding of the three laws, I gave the students a challenge of creating a vehicle that is powered by a balloon.
No recording this week since most of class was taken up by the creation of the balloon cars.
For homework this week, I want you to think about the car that was made in class and write, at least, one sentence describing how the following physics concepts applied to your car. (Some of the answers may seem redundant but I want to make sure you consider certain things about the balloon cars.)
1. Inertia
2. Newton's second law (be sure to use F, M and A in your answer)
3. Mass
4. Newton's third law
5. If you had a chance to do this again, what would you change to make your car faster?
6. What was the force that caused your balloon to move?
7. Why was it important that your car be light?
